MBM Contracting recently completed the construction of the new Jefferson Hospital Emergency Department. The new 30,000 square foot ED is designed to best accommodate patients of all ages, including pediatric-friendly exam rooms and pediatric-trained clinical staff. It will also be home to designated behavioral health caregivers, and have dedicated space for trauma resuscitation as well as bariatric patients. The design also further advances Jefferson’s Quick Care initiative – a fast-track treatment area that allows for expedited care for minor medical conditions that are urgent, but not life-threatening. The new ED also features eight care team stations, or nursing pods, located throughout the department that gives the clinical team a more direct connection to the surrounding treatment and observation rooms, compared to one central nurses’ station. Phase One included relocating the helipad to the new roof structure which allows for more efficient patient transports to and from the hospital. Phase Two involved the renovation of the existing emergency department space and opened May 2020.
